Introduction to Acoustic Imaging

Abstract

This short course will provide an introduction to acoustic imaging and the different theoretical and practical approaches behind it. The theory of beamforming will be explained and an overview of the most important aspects of microphone array design will be given. Some applications with different acoustic imaging systems will be shown. The last part of the workshop is a hands-on session, where attendees will get the chance see a beamforming system and the related software in a real measurement set-up. A microphone array, data recorder, Laptop and a measurement object will be provided and some measurements and analysis will be conducted.

Lecturer

Benjamin Vonrhein
Benjamin Vonrhein studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts as well as the Technical University in Graz, Austria, and completed his studies with a degree in Electrical Audio Engineering. The main focus as well as his thesis were in acoustics.
Mr. Vonrhein has worked at gfai tech GmbH since 2012. From 2012 – 2016 Mr. Vonrhein successfully expanded the role of service measurements for company success.
In 2017 he changed to the international sales team and became responsible for the technical and commercial supervision and support of all distribution partners in Asia and parts of Europe.
Since 2018 he is head of international sales at gfai tech and leads a team of sales and technical engineers.

Michael Kerscher
Michael Kerscher studied electrical engineering at the Technical University and the University of Music and Performing Arts, Graz, Austria. This study program offers a unique combination of technology and art with a focus on digital signal processing, all areas of acoustics, recording techniques and musical theory.
During his studies and his diploma thesis Mr. Kerscher specialized in the field of beamforming and acoustics. He has been using this knowledge in different companies like ADAM Audio and Lautsprecher Teufel. Since the beginning of 2016 he started as an acoustic engineer at gfai tech GmbH, conducting service measurements for customers. In January 2017 his role shifted to marketing and execution of service measurements.
Since 2018 he is director of sales at gfai tech and is responsible for a team of sales and technical engineers.
